Harsham
Overview
Harsham — The Quiet Mathematics of Joy
In Kadampuzha, OMAD Architects builds from brick, wood, and the shifting geometry of afternoon light—a house that earns its name through craft, not declaration. Harsham Residence, completed in 2024, is a 2,950-square-foot private residence prioritizing comfort and restraint over excess. The building's defining element is the diagonal brick screen: a wall of bricks set at forty-five degrees, creating a diamond lattice of voids through which light tracks the day.
Inside, each material is present as itself, with no apology: unrendered brick, rubble rough stone, Athangudi tiles underfoot, and wooden slat screens. The veranda—a covered, shaded space between house and garden—is clearly the social heart of the building. What distinguishes Harsham's photographic record is the density of human presence—portraits of a house being lived in.
Each material is present as itself, with no apology and no ambition to appear as something else.
